When Albus Dumbledore, the Transfiguration teacher at the time, heard about the plans they had created together he knew he had to put a stop to them as their plans would ruin his own.
After his fiancΓ© was killed Tom Riddle wanted revenge on the person responsible, he no longer felt anything but rage and had a new thirst for revenge. He had forgotten in his anger the secret that Alys Eden Hopper had revealed to him all those years ago.
When Harry Potter destroys Tom Marvolo Riddle's diary in his second year half of his soul had returned to Lord Voldemort's main body causing old memories to flood his mind.

Ever wondered how Tom Riddle transitioned into the most feared dark wizard the world had ever known? was he always destined to create such ruin? born a monster? or a product of his circumstances? what was it that set him down the wrong path- or rather who? This is my second Fanfic. My first is a Draco Malfoy/Lorenzo Berkshire based one called 'the beautifully tragic life of Kassandra Snape'.
