Ink was believed to be dead centuries ago. However, he was just greatly injured to the point of appearing dead. His grave was unvisited for decades, and as a result, he was stuck in a coffin for years. One day, his grave was discovered. This caused him to finally be released. The world as he knew it was no more, and he was not going to be forgotten again.
