The last day of school is approaching fast for Smith, after which he is to be pulled out of education by his guardians to join the inner circles of the family business, a task he doesn't relish. This is because his guardians are a coven of hags, who use Smith as the face of their operations, controlling every aspect of his life in the process, though loaning him a sliver of their magic in exchange.
On the last day of school, Smith is approached by a stranger whom the hags task him to investigate and infiltrate to find a powerful magical item they have long since desired. To do this, Smith embroils himself in the strangers' own business, hunting the monster known as The Bone Reaver which has preyed on mortals for decades, while also learning what he can of this magic item. However, is Smith truly the master of his own destiny, or is he just a pawn in a much larger game?
