Trite Commonplace was born and raised to be one thing and one thing only: a cliché hunter. Half human, half fiction, a hundred-percent good and no evil (or so they say), and trained in the art of erasing fate.

Yet in a world where words often come to life, the Thirteen Deadly Phrases are dangerously close to being released upon a host of unsuspecting victims by their all-powerful creator, the root of all evil, the Source, and only someone who won't fall under their spells can hope to defeat them in this life or the next.   

Trite believes he's the man for the job, although his pesky and talkative inner voice thinks otherwise. And maybe it's right. None of his ancestors have fought the good fight and lived to tell about it, meaning he might just be another nobody armed with a fine-tooth comb, a few bottles of liquid courage, a mighty pen-sword, and then whatever else he might have up his sleeve. Now is the last chance to win or humanity will never be the same.
