Leila Ramirez has always been the responsible one. As the middle child in a struggling household, she carries the weight of her family's expectations. With her father working abroad as an undocumented immigrant and her mother stuck in a dead-end teaching job, failure is not an option. She enters university, choosing Civil Engineering not out of passion, but because it seems like the safest path to financial stability. What she doesn't expect is how difficult it will be-not just the coursework, but the people, the pressure, and the biases stacked against her. Axel Valencia has never had to fight for anything. Rich, reckless, and utterly uninterested in the future, he is only at university because of his father, Anthony Valencia, a powerful businessman who expects him to take over their family's engineering firm. Axel doesn't care about engineering, responsibility, or anything that doesn't involve breaking the rules. He'd rather drink, gamble, and waste time with his equally privileged friends. Their worlds collide when Leila painstakingly completes weeks' worth of physics assignments, only to find her work mysteriously erased. The last login on the computer? Axel Valencia. Furious, she sets out to confront him, unknowingly stepping into the orbit of the very person she will grow to hate, challenge, and-against all reason-fall for. What starts as a bitter clash between a girl who refuses to fail and a boy who refuses to care slowly transforms into something deeper. Through late-night study sessions, reluctant deals, and unexpected moments of understanding, lines blur between rivalry and something dangerously close to love. But privilege, pride, and painful truths threaten to keep them apart. Because in Axel's world, status is everything. And in Leila's, survival comes first. Yet, no matter how different they are, they find themselves drawn to each other-like an equation they never meant to solve.

This time, I can't help but flinch as he touches me and pulls the other strap down .. baring my other shoulder to his eyes. "Anthony .. you can't say those things. We .. we're supposed to be best friends." As I try to reason with him, he begins to kiss my shoulder .. making the words come out so much more weaker than intended. Anthony stays quiet after what I say, or rather he ignores me, instead using his other hand to play with the skin on my stomach exposed from the top. "I know .." He trails off. I hold my breath, anxious as I wait to hear what he's going to say next. "But I genuinely don't know if that's enough for me anymore .." Anthony moves my hair to side, and the words he speaks are paired with a slow kiss to the nape of my neck. Beatrix thought she'd never trust another guy again. The sound of pencil strokes filled the silence, a quiet rhythm against the weight of unspoken words. "I don't even like him." The sketchbook lay open, pages curled at the edges, filled with lines she never meant to draw. His face stared back at her-smudged, incomplete, yet unmistakably him. She sighed, pressing the tip of the pencil against his sketched smile. It wasn't fair. She turned the page. Now, in a crowded university hallway, he leaned against the wall like he belonged there. "Still pretending you don't care?" Rivan's voice held a smirk, but his eyes said something else. She hated that she knew the difference. "He was my childhood tutor. Now, he's my classmate. If this is fate, I want a refund." A flicker of silver caught her eye-the handmade guitar pick spinning between his fingers. Her guitar pick. She had made it without thinking. Had given it away without knowing. Hadn't expected it to find its way to him. He was laying down, staring at the guitar plectrum (pick) above in his hands. His fingers closed over it. "I wonder if she knows she already picked my heart." The paper crinkled beneath her grip, her unfinished sketch staring back at her. "Tell me, Nitya..." The whisper lingered like an unfinished melody.
