Cynthia Carter Jones has never known fun. Her top two priorities are school, and taking care of her mental father, a formal military soldier. With 17 years of homeschooling and loneliness, Cynthia finds her home in books, the only entry to the outside world. Inspired by these stories and just plain boredom, she decides to write one of her own. But when her 18th birthday rolls along, her over-protective mother makes a decision that could change her life, the key to the outside world. Although shocked, Cynthia accepts her mother's proposal figuring it wouldn't cause any harm, only experience.
But then she meets a boy.... She becomes distracted from her responsibilities and her developing novel. Gradually, 'Cynthia's World' falls apart, and a new one begins forming. She begins to see things in a whole new way.
