The Lies We Tell

They say to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer, but sometimes you'll find that the lines are blurrier than they look. And if you're slow on the draw and can't learn to tell the difference you just might wind up with a knife in your back.

"Do you swear to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth?"

My eyes meet Connall's and I can see the hopelessness there. He attempts a smile upon seeing my face and I can feel the bile lining my stomach. My fingernails dig into the palms of my hands to stop myself from giving anything away. With my eyes meeting his, I swear on the Bible that I won't tell a single lie. But Lord knows this isn't the only promise I've broken, and I doubt it will be the last.

I know Connall is innocent. At least innocent of the crime he's being blamed for. But he's still guilty of more than he thinks I know or understand.

He was just too stupid to realize that his apologies had not absolved him of what he's done.

Grey meets Brown and I think he finally realizes that I'm not here to stop the ax from falling on his neck.
