In an altered reality, when you turn 17, your first Tattoo of the Fates appears on your body, it gives you hints about your fate. It is a very important stage in life, where you become an adult and are given a clue about who you are set to become. A tattoo appears each Leap Year, and every four years, you begin a new stage in your life.

Alyssa is turning 17 in a few weeks, and is absolutely terrified of what is to become of her in adulthood. Since both her parents had gotten extremely terrible tattoos, she was praying with all her might to the Artists that her fate would be acceptable, or even manageable.
