Michelle and her teenage daughter, Kiera have been victims of domestic violence at the hands of their husband/stepfather, Shane. Just when all hope seems lost, Chicago PD Detective, Jay Halstead steps in at the right moment. After the police lock up their abuser for good, Michelle signs guardianship of her daughter over to Jay for her own protection.
