In an alternate reality where newts developed human-like intelligence. these new newts (called Eftlings), find themselves enslaved by the humans, powering their factories and doing the menial work that no human wants to do. The discovery of Knollocus, a lost continent inhabited only by Eftlings lead to uprisings around the country as the Eftlings try to flee to their homeland. In Boston, Massachusets, Triton finds himself in the middle of an uprising attempt gone wrong. If he doesn't find a way to leave, his family and friends will have to pay the price.
