"What in the world?" He looked at me, his face a mixture of horrified and puzzled.
"Well. . ." I tried to explain. "It started with a school project." I tried to smile.
"What kind of project?" He looked utterly confused.
"Well, to be more specific, it started with six venus fly traps."
Penelope planned to impress her professor, and instead of choosing a normal project, she had to choose one involving a venus fly trap. The results were not even close to expected, and now Penelope must fight to survive (and maybe still achieve a good grade).

"Stop, stay b-back," I try to say confidently but I can't even breath right. Realizing he won't listen I start to turn around planning to make a break for it. His skin was tanned, but an olive tone suggested he had a natural darker complexion to begin with. My eyes finally found his pink, very plump lips which were resting slightly open. His lips jerked up into a lopsided sneer as his hand snapped back to his side. The sudden movement left my back cold, as if his palm had been a source of warmth. "You've got to be kidding me!" His tone dripped with disgust. My eyes turned to questioning as I looked back up into his eyes. I brought my hand up to rub my nose, squinting at the slight pain. "What the hell." He grumbled. "I, Jay Julian, reject you as my mate." He, or Jay, said with venom lacing his voice. He quickly turned and walked down the now vacant hallway with no glance back. Rejection? What the hell was that? Was it some sort of local lingo? How did I get rejected on my first day? The first person I make eye contact with at this school rejects me.
