Eren Yeager moves to the small town of Larkspur, Washington, determined to start a new life and leave his past behind. He was rude and abrasive to the locals, believing that no one could understand him or his struggles.

One day while out walking, Eren meets Michiko Malandro, an outgoing and vibrant young black woman who runs a local cafe. She introduces Eren to the townspeople and helps him find a job as a delivery driver for her cafe.

Despite his initial hesitation, Eren finds himself drawn to Michiko's upbeat personality and he soon falls in love with her despite their differences. He begins to open up about his past and reveals the struggles he has gone through. Michiko is understanding and supportive, introducing Eren to her friends which includes members of the African American community in the area.

At first, Eren is apprehensive about their friendship but as time goes on, he learns how valuable these relationships are.
