The blood curdling screams filled my once peaceful ears, just another day in the life of a captive. That's right, a captive, a captive of the next door neighbour. Confused? I will explain...
Around four months ago now, I came to shadowed lake. It's exactly what the name implies. A city built upon a lake behind dooms mountain, which blocks out any direct light. A city built for people like me, people who can't see the sun, people who can't feel the warm, people who aren't really people, people who have a hidden side. I came here to escape the Suns murdering Rays, to find a blacksmith with the power to prevent my faults from being noticed. He promised a ring be made for me, one that would forever shadow my ghostly pale skin. But a deal like this comes with a price, one I didn't particularly want to pay, one I knew I'd regret.

My hand slaps against my mouth as I try to shut myself up. Don't make too much noise...or he'll hear you. A vehicle's door opens then slams shut. I don't hear footsteps...but as the minutes go by I begin to hear them; the footsteps get louder and louder and louder, matching the sound of my thundering heart. That's when I see his shadow cast over the ditch...over the place where I tried to hide. "Well," he says with a smile in his voice. "I wonder where he could've gone...the footprints stop here...so I wonder if he just...disappeared?" My body begins to tremble. I can feel it now. The pain. I can feel the pain already. He jumps down into the ditch...he stands directly in front of me, with his back facing me. My hand presses harder against my mouth as I try to suppress my whimper, but it's way too late now. He punched the wall in an effort to scare me but instead made me laugh even harder, falling to the ground and rolling on my side. Soon I had his friend laughing with me as the man in front of me glared at both of us. "Don't give me that look. She's the one who started laughing." His friend said, wheezing a little bit and trying to stop laughing. I calmed down a bit, standing up to face them, a smile on my face. "Now, if you're done threatening me," I raise an eyebrow.
