Fryderyk Chopin.

Arguably the best virtuoso pianist and composer of the Romantic era, and concert pianist Emma Bechstein intends to follow in his footsteps. Her love for Chopin's delicate and beautiful music as well as her intense practicing has been crucial to the building of a very successful musical career. One which has helped her forget all her troubles.

But when a clumsy, self-absorbed journalist, Christopher Kipling, interviews her at the site of Chopin's own piano her barriers instantly go up. He is annoying, arrogant and knows nothing about the one thing which she has built her entire life around. Every moment is more painful than the last.

Yet despite how much she decides to despise him, her love for the music overrides her frustration when Chris stumbles across some very old sheet music in the piano leg. Suddenly, Emma and Chris find themselves accidentally plunged into a world of the composer's secrets.

Together.

In a battle of wits, the art of music and the power of words are joined in a fight to the death and neither Emma nor Chris are likely to back down. But as they journey on to find out more about Chopin's lost prelude, they just might stumble into something else they weren't expecting.

A love story.

It's 1874, only a few years after the U.S. Civil War and Heinrich Schroder decides to leave his home country of Germany and settle in the modest city of Baltimore. An aspiring world-class composer, he quickly finds himself working under the lids of Steiff pianos ("Steiff" being the main manufacturer in the city), tuning the strings he so longed to master. Not long after his establishment in America, his clients and their families, some he considers friends, are murdered one-by-one. Deemed a prime suspect early on, Heinrich must work to clear his name by assisting the police in apprehending the real killer--months after the unsolved murder of his own friend, Klaus Planck and his girlfriend, the beautiful Emma Jung. What Heinrich didn't know was that this serial killer encounter would entangle the life of Allison Scott, an unassuming girl who has just moved to New Castle with her family--over 130 years later. In the summer of 2017, when days should be full of soccer and baseball and lounging the new house, Allison and her brother Julian are taken by surprise when they discover an old Steiff piano in the basement of the house across the street; a piano they believe to be haunted by the same serial killer that Heinrich Schroder was after. With her very own musical acumen, Allison works to solve the case of "Steiff-ling Slasher", picking up where Heinrich left off. Her life depends on it.

!! FINISHED !! Still reviewing each chapter for correction before publishing them. Schroeder always believed that music was his one true love-until Lucy van Pelt crashed into his life, loud, stubborn, and impossible to ignore. She was his greatest distraction, his biggest frustration, and the only person who ever made him feel something beyond the notes on his piano. Years later, he has everything he ever dreamed of: sold-out concerts, worldwide recognition, and the chance to play alongside legends. But no amount of success can drown out the echoes of what he left behind. When a chance reunion forces him to face Lucy once more, old wounds reopen, and unspoken words hang between them like an unresolved chord. She's different now-bolder, more distant, and utterly indifferent to the boy who once consumed her world. As their paths intertwine in ways neither of them expected, Schroeder is forced to confront the truth he spent years running from: was his dream worth losing her? And if the music never stopped between them, is it too late to play one final song?
