Alaska can be a bleak and dangerous place, especially in the dead of winter. But when hair-raising whispers about an outbreak reach the small harbor town of Whitely, the townspeople face a new, unfathomable fear-the virus is coming for them.

Life seemed complicated for Sophie Collins when she had teen pregnancy and her squeaky-clean reputation as the mayor's daughter to worry about. But strict schedules and perfectly groomed hair become yesterday's concerns as bloodcurdling screams pierce the night air and lurid memories haunt feverish dreams. Weak and alone, Sophie must survive the longest, most terrifying night of her life and pray she won't be the only one left when she wakes.

Alex Ortiz is the new kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and trouble seems to follow him wherever he goes. It's all he can do to keep his head down until his eighteenth birthday when he can leave his life in foster care behind him. But Alex doesn't realize he and the quiet girl from class with lonely, blue eyes are fated in the most impossible way imaginable. Death is everywhere, and even in the gray dawn of morning, after the fever subsides and the world echoes in silence, Alex will have to face his darkest demons yet.

The Longest Night is a prequel in the Savage North Chronicles.

Wildfire: The underdog

39 parts Complete

When a virus outbreak becomes a catalyst for political divisions and a possible war, Alexander Sommers uses his escapism ideology to seek solace from his past constraints that hurt him, including a girl fell for named Delilah. Dropping out of college and abandoning his family, Alexander settles at a refugee camp in the mountains of Oregon, alongside the Chasers, with the shared goal to hide from the government and build a new post-apocalypse community. As the days go on, Alexander is sent on a scouting mission to investigate a once-notorious ranger park engulfed by a wildfire 27 years ago. Among the ruined vegetation, Alexander finds a watchtower. There he finds an abandoned station and a handheld transceiver, leading him to Jonah Johnson, a refugee from a different campsite who will answer Alexander's ultimate questions of whether he should remain a lone wolf. Or to give himself a chance to open his heart to what has become his new reality. Word count: 60,000 - 70,000
