The story seems to be a historical fiction set in a time of war where Arthur, the protagonist, gets injured and is taken care of by a nurse practitioner named Sarah. During his recovery, he develops a strong bond with Sarah and they become close friends. Later, they hear the news of the Queen's arrival, and to Arthur's surprise, it is Katherine, the love of his life, who he thought he had lost forever. The shock of seeing her again causes him to collapse. Arthur is devastated to know that Katherine is with someone else now and feels lost without her. The opening is particularly strong, with its descriptions of the night and the faint smell of blood adding to the eerie tone. The characterization of Arthur as a young soldier struggling to find his place in the war is also compelling. Arthur is feeling overwhelmed with all the recent events and is struggling to process everything that is happening around him, and he is not sure how to react. Sarah's attempt to flirt with him is lost on him as he is preoccupied with his own thoughts and emotions. He may need some time to process everything and come up with a plan on how to move forward. But who knows what life will be in a matter of a few moments. This is a tale full of adventure, love, war, peace, mystery, and teens.
