Stay In Your Lane

Yael Park runs Philimarine University.

Student body president, trust fund, perfect record. He has never had to try at anything, and it shows - in the easy charm, in the way rooms rearrange themselves when he walks in, in the fact that nobody has told him no in nineteen years.

Ara Santos is there on a full scholarship, with a sister at home who is sick and a plan that does not have room for failure. She is not interested in his charm or his reign, and she says so, loudly, in a crowded cafeteria, on the worst possible day.

The university's response is to make them co-chairs of the biggest event of the year.

Cassidy Chen has a long memory and a great deal of influence, and she was here first. Her advice to Ara is four words long: stay in your lane.

What none of them plans for is the budget arguments that run past midnight, the coffee that keeps appearing, the rooftop conversations, and the slow discovery that the person across the table has walls for reasons that have nothing to do with you.
