What is it about the visual aspect of a tree that enthralls us? It's a complex body as seen, felt, and understood. A tree trespasses the boundaries of elements, and again trespasses the boundaries of texture. It meets the earth and grows tall to the sky - playing with the wind, it soaks the water too. Its textures are various and perplexing, yet gorgeous to our senses - a rough trunk, but the soil to its root is porous, still, as it breathes, the roots hold it captive - reserves of water flowing beneath and the soft tips of branches; its leaves can almost be in transparent in the sun, exposing a web of life and opaque in the dark, tracing nothing - a play of light and blinks. The fruits it bears could be fleshy or crunchy, and the flowers that bloom have petals reminiscent of the soft feathers, in a palette of colors we're still finding names for.
