Long hot summers and cold winters characterize the vast landscape full of high wheat fields and dense forests around the small place of Brixton town.
Old Horris McCanzie's small ranch is a little out of the way.
Here is the home of a little orphan.

Louwi Willow Prim is a little rascal who spends hours topping through the woods, climbing trees, chasing horses through the high rapeseed fields and spending summer nights outside. She never wears a lot of fancy clothes, only oversized, which is why Horris often calls her tomboy.

She is not like other girls her age. Prefers to write books instead of reading them and loves to dance to jazz and soul on black radio stations than to rock 'n' roll.

"She's a free spirit. pure life and doesn't want to waste a minute there," Horris only says when Louwi didn't come to school again or had to go to the principal because of causing trouble. But her grades were always worth seeing.
She was an enigma to the town's moralizers, and to them she didn't come from an orphanage, she came out of a sap.
But for one person she was special.
Because for him there was such a path of lightness in her. A certain beauty.

For him, Louwi was not a crazy little girl. She was a muse. She was everything.
