Kody (KoKo) Anderson for as long as she remembers has been described as bitter. Raising a black son who is constantly in trouble at school, as a single mother contributes to that. After being failed by the system, she has no faith in men, humanity, or God. Day in and day out as long as she provides for her son, she's content. That's until she gets a call that rocks her entire world.

Markeyvius (Vi) Cathey had been in the streets his whole life. Jumping off the porch at six; drugs, licks, and guns were all he knew. After losing his cousin to the game when he was sixteen he decided to turn his life around before it was too late. Almost ten years later he teaches math to third graders. When a student in VI's class acts out in an imaginable way, he doesn't expect the mother of the child to have an effect on him.
