Claire was named for her delicate features and bright blonde locks when she was brought to an orphanage as a Jane Doe at the age of six. Since her arrival, Claire has only wanted two things: a home of her very own, and to know what truly happened on the night of her discovery. Seven years later, her prayers are answered in the form of the Lauriers, an aristocratic family who claim that Claire is actually their long lost daughter, Aelia, who vanished seven years ago. As Claire begins to settle into her new role as the youngest Laurier, things don't seem to be as they appear. She is plagued by dreams, her mother's detached disposition, and visions of a little girl. Claire is desperate to find the truth, but what if that truth proves to be deadly?

"I scanned my surroundings, attempting to identify where I was. Or more importantly...who I was." One day. One forest. One girl. A Jane Doe is found wandering the forest, her hair uncombed, her clothes torn. The last thing she remembers is the forest, an extensive case of severe head trauma wiping her memories. She tries to regain control of her life, renaming herself Jane Hope and joining the Police Academy. But memories haunt her, images appearing in her mind...images she can't ignore. Familiar faces surround her, forcing her to face her past. And as Jane makes new friends and becomes irrevocably attracted to a fellow officer, one question pulses through her mind, churning inside of her brain: Can you ever look to the future when you can never leave your past?
