Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York reported that the Republican was indicted with 13 charges that comprise accusations of stealing public funds, two counts of providing false statements to the House of Representatives, three counts of money laundering and seven counts of wire fraud. He was engaged in the laundering of funds by fraudulently leading political campaign supporters as well as donors to pay for his own expenditure. He was also illegally claiming unemployment benefits even though he was employed. If Santos is convicted on all of the counts, then he might have to face up to 20 years in prison."
