UNEDITED Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path. Those are the words that Justin McCallister has been repeating in his mind since the day he was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumour that's been causing partial seizures for the past five years of his life. Partial seizures that can't seem to be controlled by every epileptic medication he takes. It's caused him to push everyone away. He refuses to become friends with anyone because he knows, from personal experience, that they're eventually going to leave him behind due to his circumstances. He knows that no matter where someone stands in your life, be it family members or friends, they will find a way to stab you in the back. And after experiencing the divorce and complicated situation his parents went through, he's determined to avoid girls because he believes love is foolish and volatile. Bring Adelaide "Addie" Levesque into the picture. She's a smart, beautiful girl that has a strong sense of direction, knows where she belongs, and wishes that she could have an epic love story like the one her parents share. But beneath her confidence, she's scared. She doesn't know what she wants to do after high school and it scares her. On top of that, none of the boys can't seem to understand her for who she is. Everything changes when they meet. Addie finds the situation to be painfully cliche, but she can't help but be curious about the new boy in her class. She wants to know why he keeps his hood up and earbuds in during lectures. Justin knows he should stay away from her, but there's something about her that begs for his attention. She's sweet and charming, but the problem is, he doesn't want to delve deep into his past with her. He doesn't want to reveal the ugly truth about who he is beneath the act. As Justin and Addie go through their final year of high school, the realize you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

A story of young adults befriending one another & getting through life together. Sounds pretty average but nothing is ever simple, especially in a purple world. Maia has epilepsy & that alone makes life hard in so many ways. This also means that being the new girl at a close-nit university isn't at the top of her list of worries. Don't underestimate Maia though. This young woman may be shy & disabled but she's strong & knows how to live life at times, even if it sometimes lands her in some hot tea. Eros doesn't share Maia's diagnosis but he has his own unpleasant experience with the nasty brain disorder. While he's quite confident & sure of everything, his past has thrown him off track & tends to make him quite stand offish. Sometimes the wrong track leads to the most fun though. What about Nereus you ask? Well they've been Eros' support system for quite some time but they're known for their truthfulness & virtue which always brings some brutal humour to any situation. Everyone has to decide whether they actually like the truth or not when it comes to Nereus. Add these people, their contrasting personalities & their complex histories to the same close-nit neighbourhood & university & you're bound to have some purple adventures awaiting you. Content Warning: mention of SUDEP throughout story, detailed descriptions of panic attacks will be included but not frequently, detailed first person description of semi aware convulsive seizures (can feel and hear during episode) will be included but not frequently. Please read with caution if any of this is likely to be uncomfortable or triggering. If you message me I'm happy to make sure you're aware of where such content will be placed and in which chapter. This is an #OwnVoices book.

I gasped for breath as I jolted and sat up in bed. My t-shirt was drenched with sweat. I wiped the back of my hand against my forehead as I checked the table clock. 4:30 am, it read. I buried my head in my hands as tears rolled down my cheeks. I couldn't live this failure of a life any more. It had to end.. On the outside, Melissa Crawford looked like everyone else, an absolutely normal girl. But was she? Having lost her father in a car accident, with a below average performance at school and having just given away her own baby at the age of 16, she surely wasn't okay. The demons of depression ate away at her soul, day and night. Living like a robot, she felt trapped inside her own body. Her mind controlled her. She struggled to find a way out. But was she successful? Did she manage to escape in time? This is the story of a girl, depressed and in the dire need of help. Can she escape the tricks her own mind is playing on her? Can she save herself? Or will she give up? Read on to know more. NOTE: if anyone is suffering from problems similar to the protagonist of this story, please do talk to someone about it who will be there for you through thick and thin. Though this story might in a way help you find your way too, I strongly suggest you seek medical help if you or anyone you know shows suicidal tendencies. I just need all of you to know that everyone is special in their own way. Love yourself. Love your surroundings. There is so much to look forward to in life. Be happy :-) Highest rank: #269 in short story
