Amaris Rodriguez was the freak of their town. They did things no other fourteen year old could do. They spoke to the deceased and created stars in the palms of their hands. Their grandmother, who prayed every night for God to fix them, finally decided she had enough and gave them to their aunt upstate in New York, where then they were forced to go to a school for "mentally underdeveloped individuals".
