Daniel "Danny" Alon grew up under the roof of the house ruled by his abusive father. At just fourteen years of age he has seen and felt more physical and emotional pain than anyone he knows - other than his equally abused mother. When a tragedy occurs on the night of Danny's fifteenth birthday, he runs away from home. Too frightened to return home, Danny lives in the woods near a friend of his. Deep within the woods is a small, ramshackle house which he and several children reside in. These children have been taken under Danny's wing - who is now twenty-seven - and are given a home away from home. An escape from their abusive parents. Life goes on and with help from Danny's friend, Richard, they almost live ordinary lives. That is until a young boy shows up at their doorstep - a boy in need of desperate assistance. This young boy just may change Danny's life around one more time.

Here's a bombshell for you: I have eight brothers. Eight extremely attractive, smart, mischievous, crazy overprotective brothers. Well, step brothers. Trust me when I say that it didn't start out that way, with me having eight step brothers. My father got remarried when I was sixteen. Another bombshell for you: I had no clue that the marriage was happening until about three months before, and I only found out because we were moving from Texas to New York in a week. Yeah, my father wasn't huge on the whole 'sharing' thing. But, that's not what you opened up this book to read, now is it? Well, I should probably start telling you the legitimate start of the story. (Heads up here, guys. This book is about abuse and will have occasional swearing in it. Okay, that's my warning. Have a nice day!)
