Hassel used to think that being plucked from his life in the city to live in a cramped, rundown farmhouse in the Appalachian mountains was the worst thing that ever happened to him but when his younger brother, Sloan, goes missing in the wilderness surrounding the property he soon learns that there are worse nightmares to endure.

Hassel decides that the only way he'll ever be able to move on is if he faces those very same dark, wicked, woods that swallowed his brother up and never let him go. Gathering a couple of trusted friends, he embarks on a hiking trip to set up a memorial for Sloan so that he may finally be free and lay the past to rest. Only, the hiking trip does not go as planned.

You see, there are a certain set of rules that you should follow when trekking through Appalachia. Rules to keep you safe, to keep you alive, to keep you from being hunted by the unimaginable horrors that stalk through the brush and treetops. Unfortunately for Hassel and his friends, they wind up breaking every rule and realizing why they were established in the first place.

The Bird People by WendyyWolfe

In 1600s Virginia, a small colonial village sprang up unceremoniously on the sacred burial grounds of the Native American people it was taken from, the Nottoway. Now, an ancient evil has been awakened in the form of Elementals known as The Bird People and it is suspected that the Nottoway Tribe has cursed the ground in revenge for being encroached upon by colonial settlers. After failed crops, still births, deaths, burnt homes and facing starvation, superstitions run rampant and the townspeople do the only thing they can think of in the late 1600s to appease these angry and destructive spirits. Give them an offering. It is quietly decided by the elders of the community, in an effort to keep these spirits of the bird people at bay, that every woman should give up her first born infant daughter to them. One such young mother cannot bear this resolution much less imagine giving up her only child. In order to keep her only child, a daughter, she makes a baby out of straw and gives that instead, bringing chaos to their puritan village. A cursed girl. The man who loves her. A questionable death. She collapses down in front of me and runs her hands along my shoulders and down my arms. I close my eyes as she lifts my shirt over my head. "I can hear your heart racing," she whispers. I roll my head back as her lips press into my throat. I'm becoming so hot that it feels like I'm in transition. I run my hands beneath her shirt and up her back, pushing her closer into my throat. "Any requests?" she says. "Be gentle with me." "Really?" I smile before I grip the ends of her shirt and I tear it in half, all the way up her spine and all the way down the middle of her torso. It makes her gasp. "No," I say. ------------ Since meeting her mysterious saviour deep in the woods, ten things started to become clear. 1) Irresistible British men didn't just exist across the world. 2) Survival was a lot more complicated than just looking for water. 3) They were bonded together in a way that didn't make sense. 4) Her life, which was filled with so much human suffering, finally had some faint glimmer of hope. 5) She should have known that humans don't sleep walk every damn night. 6) The man ate animals raw and kept a mysterious, giant wolf as a pet. 7) Hunters will never stop looking for her. 8) She doesn't care. 9) Their desires burn for each other and it's out of their control. 10) Werewolves are real. This is Devon and Thorn's story. WARNING: Mature content. Sexual assault, attempted rape and violence. There is no possessiveness or abuse in this story between the love interests. Their relationship is sweet, warm and a little bit hot.
