Vanessa has always been there for Derek, even after they broke up, and she always will be. She is madly in love with him even though he won't acknowledge her. She finds out that he has fresh scars and it sends her spiraling for him again because he opened up to her.
Derek has been in love with Erica since he laid eyes on her. But Erica refuses to care for him. After a quarrel between the two Derek confesses to Vanessa about his feelings for Her, but Vanessa isn't ready to hear what he has to say.
Eventually, the two find out that Erica was with her ex the entire time. You would think it would matter to him. But when Vanessa tries to spark his feelings again it doesn't work and he falls for her best friend instead.
