Forgiveness isn't an easy thing to do, especially not when the thing a person has done to you broke you into two. It takes a lot of time to heal, and even then it's hard to accept their actions. 

James and Riley were together for four years before she got pregnant, but even before then they were like two peas in a pod - a pair of best friends who did everything together. It lasted until someone from the past got involved in Riley's life again, causing her to have no other option than to put her daughter first. Even if that meant having to leave her under James's custody in order to keep her safe.

Three years later, following the death of a close family member, James and Riley gather again at the funeral and the moment Riley lays eyes on her daughter, Remi, she finds she has no other option than to find a way to get back into her life.

All it takes is getting James to Forgive her, but that's a lot easier said than done.
