She was supposed to be the older sister, the protector. But when her sister disappears for some time, Maeve goes to search for her. But when she does end up finding her, she's held by the Fireflies, who say Ellie is bitten, and immune to the Cordyceps virus that eighty-sixed the world.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is when things become far more complicated than Maeve could've ever imagined.

After her sister is bitten by an infected, Maeve and Ellie find themselves being precious "cargo" and having to be delivered to the Fireflies, who are across the country, by smugglers Joel, Tess, and TJ.
