BDubs wasn't exactly an odd child. Yes, he had more potted plants than friends, and no, he didn't know who his mother was and was often mocked for it (even his best friends Etho and Gem, although he was pretty sure Etho didn't know his parentage either), but he wasn't odd.

Until his friend Gem reveals that yes, he is rather odd, and oh, did she forget to mention?

His mother is actually Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, and he's actually a half-blood.

Oh, and so is Etho.

So BDubs finds himself (along with Etho) being dragged off to a place called Camp Half-Blood by Gem (who turns out to be a satyr), where he meets multiple other half-bloods, but one stands out from the rest.

Cleo Z. Daughter of Hades, the god of death and king of the underworld who is about to wage war on immortals and mortals alike.
