Connor Bedard's trade to the New Jersey Devils should be a fresh start-a chance to leave the past behind and finally focus on hockey. But Chicago never really let him go. Years of emotional, physical, and psychological abuse from his former teammates left scars deeper than anyone realizes. The Blackhawks shaped a false public image of him-quiet, focused, robotic-while hiding the truth: he was isolated, manipulated, and broken down piece by piece. Now, in New Jersey, he doesn't know how to exist without constantly watching his back. Jack and Luke Hughes take him in, treating him like family, but Connor struggles to believe it's real. The team welcomes him with open arms, but the smallest things send him spiraling into old fears. And when the Devils start noticing-really noticing-Connor is forced to decide: can he finally let people in? Or will he always be the kid from Chicago, trapped in a place he no longer belongs? This is a story of healing, found family, and learning to trust again-even when the past refuses to stay buried.
