Året er 1959. Liam og Harper er lige flyttet fra Winnemucca til Pahrump der ligger i Nevada. Liam er en hårdtarbejdende militærmand mens Harper er en hjemmegående kvinde. Imens Liam arbejder for forfremmelserne oplever Harper ikke kun flere alene timer, men også mere mystik. Fra hver dag der går bliver det mere mystisk. Vejret som ellers er varmt bliver overskyet, det vrimler rundt med forskere og militærfolk. Byens beboer opfører sig mærkværdigt. Hvad er der ude i krateret siden der ikke er adgang for civilister og kan Harper lægge sin lyst til at finde ud af hvad grunden er til at det hele sker, væk?
