All her life, Aedona "Donnie" Stavayeva has had a crush on the mysterious woman dubbed "the Warmonger"; it's ruined her chances for relationships. Now, in 1915--during the peak of World War 1, Donnie's brother--Pyotr--enlists in the military. Donnie decides to take up a job as a nurse, in hopes she'll cross paths with this elusive Warmonger.

The Stavayev siblings are stationed in Osowiec Fortress. Everything seems to be going downhill for Donnie's side until in a freak turn of events, Lieutenant Kotlinsky's forces seem to rise from the dead. Though Kotlinsky's forces are successful in driving the Germans back, many soldiers and nurses--including Donnie--wait for their inevitable demise. Strangely, after passing unconscious due to the chlorine gas, Donnie finds herself being nursed back to health by a mysterious woman who goes by the name 'Bear Kryvichyn'--the Warmonger... Who just so happens to want Donnie's hand in marriage.
