Her mom being a Tawkami and her dad an Omatikaya, Tirol became the adoptive daughter of Jake and Neytiri after her parents died because of the Sky People. When Quaritch "came back" to life through an avatar and hurted the Sully kids with his team, Jake and Neytiri took the decision to leave their people, their clan, to find a new home: Awa'atlu, where live the reef people, the Metkayina. Even if Tirol, at first, was not happy to be there, Rotxo, a Metkayina boy, fastly changed her mind by teaching her the way of water, as their feelings for each other became stronger day by day, while Quaritch and his team are ready to do anything to find Jake Sully and his family...
