The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green. The people of the village began to gather in the square, between the post office and the bank, around ten o’clock; in some towns there were so many people that the lottery took two days and had to be started on June 20th, but in this village, where there were only about three hundred people, the whole lottery took less than two hours, so it could begin at ten o’clock in the morning and still be through in time to allow the villagers to get home for noon dinner.

The stranger under the willow tree
On a frigid and blustery October evening, the radiant moon cast its glow upon a solitary willow tree, perched atop a hill. Beneath the tree sat a mysterious man, clutching a large, worn storybook. Suddenly, his gaze was drawn to a child, no more than 10 to 13 years old, wandering aimlessly nearby. With a welcoming gesture, the man motioned the child over to him. "Why are you out here all alone on such a freezing night?" he inquired with concern. The child merely shrugged in response. The man sighed and reached out his hand, offering it to the shivering youngster. Without hesitation, the little boy took hold of the man's hand and they made their way over to the willow tree where a cozy fire was already burning. "Here you are, little one," the man said gently. "Let's get you nice and warm." Seated by the fire, the child's eyes were drawn to the book resting against the tree. With a pointed finger, he indicated his desire for a story. The man smiled kindly. Started- September 2019 Competed - October 2022 Oh I didn't know it would be this big. Looking out the window from the uber I that stop at the gate with a few guards standing in front of it. I got out the car thanking the driver and getting on my phone making sure I gave the nice old man a five star he was really friendly, by the way. Putting my phone in my pocket while I held my resume tight I walk up towards the two man that stood by the gate. One on the left move up meeting me holding his hand out, I gave him my paper assuming he's looking over it since he held the paper in his eye view. He looks at the other man who was on the right and nodded his head, his partner put some type of pin which cause the gates to open. My resume was gladly handed back to me as the man who held it started walking in and motion me to follow. Looking around I watch some of the gardeners tending to the front yard some maids was around picking flowers as well. It was a normal day. But, since that's a cliche line often used before stating that the day was, in fact, not normal in the slightest, it quite obviously wasn't a normal day. So lets start again, this time without suggesting anything strange is going to happen. There's not much worse than being proven wrong, and the sentence 'It was a normal day' was asking for something unusual to happen. Fortunately, the sentence in question was not one you'd often see outside of being the start of bad fanfiction, so it was highly unlikely that a sensible man like Berwald Oxenstierna would ever say it, and since this story focuses on him, there is no point on starting with that dreaded sentence. "It was a normal day." Said Alfred F Jones, a bored american on a completely different continent to the unfortunate Berwald. "Well what did you expect?" Asked the american's twin, the equally bored but much more sensible Matthew Williams. He received a glare in response, and there the two sat for the rest of the day while nothing happened.
