three metkayina siblings narrowly escape the clutches of the sky people and into the dense jungles. entangled with the forest people, the omatikaya clan, they ask for safe passage and are offered with uturu, a safe sanctuary until their wounds are healed.

until then, they learn the ways of the forest. under the guidance of tsu'tey, the older daughter falls in love with the warrior. but she knows it cannot be, with him being of the forest and she, of the water. her route to returning back to the ocean . . . not only that, but he was to be the future olo'eyktan and already promised with another, it could never be.

however, a single woodspirit - a sign of hope from the Great Mother changes that.
