A week after her friend's untimely demise, Ellie Smith is in desperate need of a distraction to forget all about it. All she wants to do is get back into killing rotters with her dad and his men. But when one supply run goes terribly wrong, she takes a chance on a stranger climbing out from underneath a dumpster. With the promise of helping her find her dad, she goes with him to his community, where she aids in the attack against dangerous scavengers and the threat of a massive herd. While aiding the community, she can't help to be drawn to the teenage cowboy guiding through the herd. Only the next time she sees him, he's missing an eye.
