In 2006, a failed experiment conducted on humans in Japan resulted in a world-wide zombie apocalypse. After nine years, people have lost hope in finding a cure and are struggling to scavenge and survive the on-coming days. Naru Hanako, a twenty-one year old woman who's been roaming Japan for many years during the apocalypse, still searches for a cure with some unlikely companions. On their perilous journeys, they even indulge in some soul searching and work on reconciling with their pasts.
