Tuesday, November 19. Seating plans change around in Melville middle school's history class, and suddenly, Elise Lopez, a band kid, finds herself sitting next to Daiyu Zhou, the sister of the guitarist in a queer band. Although Daiyu prides herself on being a perfect straight-A kid, Elise can tell that something else is going on behind her eyes. The two bond over their shared love of music and begin hanging out more.
With a few classes together, Elise suddenly finds herself hanging out with her more and more often, and before she knows it, she collects information on Daiyu's broken home life. With her guitarist sister, Biyu, being in a tough spot with her parents, and Yuze, their oldest brother, trying to keep the peace between her and their mom, Daiyu is suddenly thrown with more responsibilities and problems.
When Elise figures this out, her first instinct is to help Daiyu and her family, but she soon faces problems of her own, mainly to do with the awkward and confusing interactions between them, and figuring things out about herself she never knew before. Before she knows it, she is left grasping at straws, disoriented and irritated at not knowing who she wants to be. Perhaps if her flailing arms are noticed by Daiyu, the two can help each other out and fix the problems they were abruptly thrown into...
