Some people have seen the species known has "Ancient Pillars", an ancient species far superior to man. Few people know their existence, and fewer people know where they came from. 

When Joseph Joestar was fighting the last Pillar Man, Kars, he had assumed all Pillar men would be eradicated, none to be seen ever again on this earth. Not until he sees a pair of pure white wings in the night sky, covering the light of the moon.
