A long time ago, there were three gods. They roamed the earth, laughing and drinking and mingling with mortals, creating demigods and quarter-bloodeds, who retained some of their godly powers. The world was bursting at the seams with life and magic and prosperity. But one day, the gods disappeared... --- All her life, McKayla had been able to see past the Masquerade. She could see magic and powers and skills that Ordinaries could not. Of course, as she grew older, she was told not to speak of such things, for they didn't exist. Right? Now, at nineteen years old, she's a detective for a branch of the government that specializes in magic, and those who wield it, solving cases and arresting criminals before they can deal too much damage upon the world. But no matter how fast she runs, she can't escape what happened two years ago, or the memories of the friend she lost. But when a sparky youngster and a childhood friend/crush that she hadn't seen in years enter her life, she realizes that there's things going on in the world that don't quite make sense.
