Suki is a mermaid who wants to see what it's like to be a human on land, but her mother, the queen of the sea, forbids it. Suki is fascinated by human culture and longs to explore the world above the water's surface. Despite her mother's warnings, Suki ventures to the shore and meets Deku, a kind-hearted human. After a talk, she is called to see her mother and is scolded for disobeying her orders. However, Suki's curiosity only grows stronger, and she continues to sneak away to the surface to spend time with Deku. As their friendship blossoms, Suki learns more about human customs and begins questioning her beliefs about the world. She realizes that there is much more to life than just following the rules and traditions of her underwater kingdom. Eventually, Suki has to keep their meetings a secret from her family and friends, as they would not understand her connection with a human. Now she must navigate the complexities of two different worlds, constantly torn between her loyalty to her underwater home and her newfound love for the human world.
