Walking down those basement steps was the worst decision I've ever made. Wait...no it wasn't. It was worse. It was the grand total of all my mistakes, there to look me in the face when I took the last step. There she was, sitting on the floor, jam-packed with my pain, letting it out through her eyes. The gun didn't look right in her hands, like shiny metal death in the grip of an angel. That's when she locked eyes with me. By that point I knew that all the begging in this messed-up world wouldn't change anything, but I didn't care. I begged her to come back to bed. I begged her not to apologize. And when she lifted the gun, I begged her to point it at me. ------------------------------ Cover Photography by Jasper James

His hand tangled in her hair, yanking her head back until their eyes met-his, burning with fury. "Where the fuck is he?" he snarled, voice like gravel and thunder. She shuddered. "I... I won't..." A sharp bolt of pain shot through her skull as he twisted her hair tighter. In one swift motion, he drew his pistol and pressed it cold and hard against her temple. "Tell me," he growled, "or do you want to die?" Tears welled in her eyes as she let out a broken sob. "I want to die... Please, just kill me," she whispered, her voice drenched in years of torment. A storm of rage surged through him. His finger twitched on the trigger. He wanted to end her right then-end the defiance, the lies, everything. But something in her shattered posture stopped him. His gaze drifted over her trembling body, and his fury twisted into something darker. A cruel smile curled on his lips. "Not before I get a taste of you."
