Scalp Psoriasis is a common skin condition. Depending on your skin tone, it could appear differently. It frequently appears as elevated, reddish or salmon-coloured patches with white scales on people with light to medium complexion. The patches may be purple, and the scales may be grey on darker skin. It may affect your entire scalp or just a few patches here and there. It might also spread to your forehead, the back of your neck, or the region behind and inside your ears.
Scalp Psoriasis can be relatively mild and hardly visible. However, it can also be severe, persist for an extended period, and result in sores with a thick crust. Strong itching can interfere with your sleep and daily activities, and excessive scratching might result in skin infections and hair loss.
Scalp psoriasis symptoms can include thin plaques that cover the entire scalp or fine scaling that resembles dandruff. Psoriasis may resemble other skin conditions, like seborrheic dermatitis. However, seborrheic dermatitis looks yellow and greasy, while psoriasis on the scalp has a silvery shine and seems powdery. Patients of colour commonly have scalp psoriasis; however, because of their hair, it can be difficult to cure.
Psoriasis on the scalp is known as scalp psoriasis. It is widespread, and about 50% of those with psoriasis also have it on their scalp. Even children can develop scalp psoriasis. The treatments will be very similar to those given to adults. Because it can be more difficult to cure and typically requires specially tailored therapies, scalp psoriasis deserves special attention.
