Tommy has always felt pulled towards witchcraft. The warm tingling in his hands whenever he got into contact with anything even remotely magic, his constant urge to collect trinkets and clutter and his wild dreams were just examples for that. You could say he was born for it. But witchcraft is frowned upon and the only people who were allowed to tend to it properly were the witches of the Academy.
That doesn't stop Tommy from dipping his toes into the matter, in the most chaotic and dangerous ways possible.
Or: Tommy's shitty altar and feral behaviour catch some unwanted attention of the rest of the SBI.

Tommy had gotten away from Dream in the canon universe, but in another Tommy was caught and turned into a living punching bag and, kinda, an experiment for Dream later on. He didn't expect Tommy to lose his emotions, the nervous system that told him when he was in pain, and even the will to carry on without Dream by his side. He didn't think that killing and reviving Tommy would affect him so much, but then again Dream wasn't complaining in the slightest. He finally had full control over Tommy, something he'd been craving since he first met the teen. He was not about to let his grip on the teen loosen. "Why?" Tommy sobbed, fingers clinging to the fabric of Philza's suit. Fat globs of tears fell down his cheeks and dripped onto his neck as he was forced down on the couch. "I don't want to be turned, please!" he cried, only for his words to be ignored as he was hoisted onto Philza's lap. Gentle fingers combed through his hair and words of comfort spewed from the vampires lips in a futile attempt to calm him. His tear-filled vision made out a hand that landed gently on his chin, lifting it up and exposing his neck. Not knowing what else to do, he screwed his eyes shut in cruel anticipation of what was to come. OR The SBI take a liking to a certain gremlin child and want him to be part of their vampire family.
