However, the Lord has other plans. You see, Jake is on a broad path. One that leads to destruction. His desire to "just live life" gives him the excuse to act reckless and disregard all responsibility and authority. If he continues down this path, it will lead him to ruin.
The Lord sees this, of course, and does not forsake him. Jesus leaves the ninety-nine for the one, focusing His attention on Jake to lead him to the strait & narrow path. The events play out as regular but this is what's happening during the time you don't interact with Diavolo. He has another life, one that many don't know about. Brianna was the runner up to be selected but life had another purpose for her.
