The Downfall Of Our Worlds

The darkness had surrounded them for so long, that they scarcely remembered what light looked like. A sun shining down on them, their skin turning warm and flushed. What they wouldn't give to experience it just once... Only that was a dangerous thought that few dared voice aloud. Though they all thought it, admitting it was a sign of weakness and weakness must not be shown. Not if you wanted to survive.

They'd only ever heard about it the sun, you see, from older wanderers and gatherers, and there weren't many of them left. Some took it as the ramblings of souls too old to remember anything clearly, while others allowed for hope to grow inside their hearts. Hoping that it was true, silently begging for the day to come when the sun returns so they could experience it for themselves.

None of them knew what was on other side of the starry void, or what happened when you passed through it. Sira had always wondered, but they never dared to tell the others that. They had work to do, souls to help. But somewhere deep inside, Sira had a longing to know. A longing to find out what lied beyond the beyond.
