Illa is attending school to be a nurse with an understudy in marine biology. It's a weird combination, but she makes it work. She is offered a dream job through a new government research facility. She accepts and moves to the new city excited for her new job. She isn't sure which part of her expertise they wanted, the nursing and medical or the marine biology. She quickly learns both when on her first day a merman is brought into the room.

Ace was content with his life. Living freely in the ocean exploring with his family. But that all changes when a traitor captures him and hands him over to humans. Ace isn't sure what will become of him and is ready to accept his fate. But an angel in a lab coat appears, Illa. The only human that calls him by his real name. Ace knows she can't stop what is happening to him, but she can make it easier and give him hope of freedom. However, some humans are just sick in the head and decide to use Ace and Illa's relationship against them as the experiments become more and more inhumane. If Ace is able to escape what will happen to Illa? Will he be able to leave her behind?
