Short Story written for an intro creative writing course (April 2022)

Vesta struggles with intrusive thoughts. Following her father's death, Vesta's mother decides the best way to protect her is to isolate her. Desperate for some sense of connection, Vesta runs a blog online.

*** Disclaimer: I am by no means saying this is an accurate portrayal of intrusive thoughts or mental illness. I did little to no research prior to writing. I just found a prompt that I liked and ran with it***

Bonnie and her seven brothers lives changed forever, after the sudden and tragic death of Bonnies' parents, eight years ago. They had to find a way to survive and make ends meet, staying with their uncle and cousins until her oldest brother, Alexander could become their legal guardian. Bonnie has never really 'loved' herself. When she was younger, she would always pick out something about her she didn't like. Whether it was a bruise on her arm, or her slightly disheveled hair, she would be upset and unhappy with her appearance. She has always craved to be liked, loved and accepted. She's now 14 and is starting her first year as a freshman at high school. Though high school isn't going to be easy like it was for her popular, loud brothers. Jealousy. Heartbreak. Bullies. Pressure. Judgement. Adapting to a new change is hard. Bonnie can't quite take it, she gets overwhelmed, and her brain feels too 'busy'. She can't help feeling what it would be like if she wasn't there or if she stayed silent, nobody would notice. She doesn't crave to be a popular girl, or to be eye candy for the boys, she just wants to be known as 'pretty' and liked. Her worst nightmare is to be known as the far girl, or the ugly one. This need becomes overwhelming, and soon her body shuts down, and her mental health plummets. She does some things, things she will regret in the future yet in the moment cures her need to feel alive, it brings satisfaction. Will her older brothers be able to save her? What happens when it all gets too much? They might be able to save her from other people, but can they save her from herself?... TW: • Self harm • Eating disorders ( Bulimia and Anorexia ) • Mentions of abuse and sa. • Suicide. (MATURE RATING) enjoy reading, jemima xoxo

And then he stopped. Shane leaned his forehead against mine, breathing heavily, our eyes still closed, and he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "Astra," he mumbled against my lips. "Please don't hurt yourself." And all at once, his body fell limp and Shane Doughtry, the captain and star player of the soccer team, collapsed. ✧*。✧*。 There are two sides to every story. High schooler Astra Thatcher is the quiet girl in the corner of the room with her music on max and ink all over her hands. She was the quiet, intelligent kid who ate lunch by herself. But inside that calm exterior she was filled with turmoil- about her life. Popular, sarcastic, funny Shane Doughtry who was always the center of attention had been in her class for years and yet never noticed her- until they were trapped in an elevator together. He's never noticed her and she's never noticed him. That was the way it was - that was the way it was always supposed to be. Their lives soon become a tangled mess of love, friendship and trust. One stormy night changes everything between them as the two are drawn closer together and they learn that everything about them that people see was just a mask. To cover up the pain underneath. ⚠️TW - contains mature themes relating to mental health and suicide. and weird chapter names. All right reserved © Crazy_Cranks P.S. I'd just like to say this is the first full novel I've ever written, when I was around 14/15 years old, so yes, there will be grammar mistakes and plot holes! Hetty wants nothing to do with heroes. Three years after her mother mysteriously vanished, she's been stuck with her abusive father, who takes his anger out on her. She despises everything about heroes-their fame, their perfection, the way the world worships them. She's content being the class mean girl, pushing everyone away. But when a new superhero transfers to her school, everything changes. Hetty discovers she has powers of her own-and that her mother wasn't just any hero, but one of the greatest to ever live. Her entire bloodline is legendary. Now, she's invited to join an elite academy for heroes, a place where everyone expects her to follow in her mother's footsteps. But Hetty isn't her mother. As a high-stakes competition looms, she must decide: will she embrace the hero's path others have set for her, or forge her own destiny-even if it means becoming something the world fears? Some heroes are born. Others are made. Hetty? She was never meant to be either. Warning* includes abuse, self harm, suicide attempt, and bad language
