Mae doesn't want to cook. She wants to paint and create something that matters.  School gets harder, and so do other things. She falls into hatred. Her parents need her to succeed and be top in her class.  

But then, she meets Luis, across the hall. The love lingers in her enemy. 

Luis has to be top so he can bring his family to the good ol' US of A. Coming from a poor background isn't easy. Mae definitely wouldn't know. Differences between each other cause this tension. Tension they can't distinguish.
